Forest & walking
Plan a walk in Platbos Forest
A forest walk makes a gentle change of pace during an Overberg break. Platbos is an indigenous forest reserve with walking routes through lowland Afromontane forest.
Choose a walk that suits your day
Platbos describes its trail as gently sloping and suitable for a moderate level of fitness, with shorter loops available. Walking time depends on the route you choose and how often you stop. Consult the reserve’s trail information and map before setting off.
Give the forest its own part of the day. A walk with time to notice the trees is a different outing from a quick stop between appointments. If you are travelling with children or someone with limited mobility, check the actual route conditions with the reserve.
Before you leave Baardskeerdersbos
Check the reserve’s current opening arrangements, walking fees and directions on its official website. Platbos does not allow pets in the forest. Do not rely on an old social post for access information.
Pack drinking water, comfortable walking shoes and a layer suited to the forecast. Save your directions before leaving and allow time for the approach to the reserve. Keep a coastal outing optional rather than making the whole day depend on a tight schedule.
A base to return to after the trail
Our accommodation is in Baardskeerdersbos, separate from Platbos Forest. For two guests, the Junior Room, Protea Room or Suikerbekkie offers a private bathroom and access to the communal lounge. The separate cottage sleeps up to two and has its own kitchenette.
If your forest visit falls on arrival day, leave room for check-in between 14:00 and 18:00 and let us know your expected arrival time. Check availability for your stay before committing to the rest of your itinerary.
